Sustainable Developments Goals – a Call to Action

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a well-structured set of 17 items on humanity's agenda. They are divided into 169 targets, which are not independent or standalone, but are interconnected and, therefore, form a system that also provides a unique opportunity to devise and develop innovative strategies and business models suited to a world in profound, rapid, and ongoing transformation.

In other words, we can say that the SDGs themselves are a kind of aspiration of humanity to confront major challenges that often cross the jurisdictional boundaries of countries or even continents and regions, in a joint effort to prioritize human well-being.

Aware of these realities, at Genesis Property we are truly determined to contribute to creating a positive impact on people and the environment, on the community of which we are part, and on society as a whole.

Since 2021, the leadership of Genesis Property has decided to position the 17 Sustainable Development Goals at the center of its new business strategy and to integrate them into all aspects of its investment activities, development, and asset operation, in order to "meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." ("Our Common Future", UN - Brundtland Commission, 1987).

We are aware that it is a complex mission, which cannot be achieved in a short time. We need to rethink our priorities and work processes and at the same time inspire changes in lifestyle, behaviors, and consumption habits of everyone around us. Our primary goal is to create more value, which should be both measurable and recognized as such within the ecosystem in which we operate.

We address all 17 SDGs, but prioritize improving the efficiency of the spaces we own and eliminating carbon emissions, increasing the health and well-being of all those we host, alongside promoting biodiversity:

  • Clean and Affordable Energy (SDG7) through investments in our own renewable energy production sources.
  • Climate Action (SDG13) by reducing operational carbon emissions.
  • Good Health and Well-being (SDG3) through community actions.
  • Life on Land (SDG15) by improving the quality of the surrounding environment, beyond buildings.
  • Partnerships for the Goals (SDG17) through multiple affiliations and partnerships.

Companies within the Genesis Property real estate group directly contribute to the achievement of the following sustainable development goals:

  • Quality Education (SDG4)
  • Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG6)
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG8)
  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG9)
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG11)
  • Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12)

Lastly, through all the actions and activities they organize at their locations, Genesis Property also indirectly contributes to the achievement of other sustainable development goals:

  • No Poverty (SDG1)
  • Zero Hunger (SDG2)
  • Gender Equality (SDG5)
  • Reduced Inequalities (SDG10)
  • Life Below Water (SDG14)
  • Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG16)
